Community
leader, businessman, and a man never afraid to express his opinion on
the issues, Cliff Courtney of Stehekin announces he is a republican
candidate for the 12th District Legislature, position 2.
Courtney says it's time for new eyes and new thinking to solve the impending
disaster our current legislators have left taxpayers of Washington State
to swallow. The current solutions are unacceptable and it's clear that
we need to think far enough out of the box to make the tough choices
that will be required before our state can be restored.
Courtney says politics is no longer a spectator sport. It's time to
get involved and he is doing just that. "The days of career politicians
needs to be over. We need to get back to electing men and women to go
to Olympia who come out of normal everyday careers and businesses who
know what it's like to live with government taxation and regulation."
Courtney says "It is time for citizen statesman to rise up and
serve this great state and nation. It was never the intent of the founders
to support a class of professional politicians to shamelessly enrich
their pocketbook while selling out the rights and prosperity of the
populace."
It is not easy to bankrupt a state like Washington, but it is happening
right before our eyes. We have rich soil, timber, minerals, hydro power,
ports, business, commerce, industry, all combined with citizens who
loves both our state and our liberty, yet we are driven to despair by
internal enemies who will trade it all for a nanny state and federal
funding.
Cliff is a life-long resident and member of the pioneer Courtney family
of the Stehekin Valley where he has operated the world famous Stehekin
Valley Ranch. He and his wife Kerry have two boys Logan, 20, and Colter,
19.
As a lifelong resident of Stehekin, Cliff has served his community in
numerous capacities; some of which include the Stehekin School Board,
Stehekin Community Council and serving as president of Stehekin Heritage,
an organization formed to protect the community, its residents and property
owners from the encroachment of the National Park Service and other
agencies. He is no stranger when it comes to dealing with overzealous
bureaucrats and onerous regulations.
Cliff stated he wants to put his talent and energy towards fighting
for the rights of the citizens of this great state which bears the name
of one of the greatest founders. "We are at the crossroads and
we must choose whether we will be subjects or citizens of our great
state", Cliff stated. He went on to say, "I will stand for
reducing taxes and regulations and for letting the principles of free
enterprise to once again be loosed to work their magic on creating jobs
and a strong economy".
If successful, Cliff will not be the first legislator from Stehekin.
Between the years of 1898 and 1902 M.E. Field was a State Representative
from the community of Stehekin and is considered by many as the father
of Chelan County. It was largely because of the work of Rep. Field that
Chelan County was formed from what were portions of Ferguson and Okanogan
Counties.
The primary election for this position will be held on August 17th.
The top two candidates from that election then move on to the General
Election which will be on November 2nd.
